Healthy Living by the Sea in Sussex

Date Published 07 June 2024

The whole British tradition of visiting popular seaside locations is built on the health benefits that can be gained. In Victorian times people of all classes and backgrounds took time to visit the coast all over the country and 'take the air' away from the smoggy major cities.

Most of today's established towns on the Sussex coast have been built up on the back of this idea and Worthing and the surrounding areas are a perfect example of this.

Miles of coastline that stretches from east Worthing right across to Ferring offers the choice of a lovely traditional seaside promenade through to wild nature-filled beaches. There really is something for everyone to be found here and it's why so many people are still choosing to leave city life behind them and head down to our shores.

The great outdoors

The health benefits of living near the sea come in many shapes and sizes. From taking a leisurely stroll to energetically body surfing the waves, enjoying a relaxing tea or coffee in one of the many beachside cafes or paragliding above the sea - the choices are all there and are yours to make.

Simply getting out and about in the fresh air and ozone-rich atmosphere beside the sea offers a health boost that has been known about throughout the ages. What's more, taking any kind of vigorous exercise is so much more enjoyable in these lovely surroundings than it can ever be in a stuffy gym too!

Work/life balance

A healthy lifestyle is all about balance, whether that means watching what you eat and drink or looking after your stress levels and mental health.

Coastal living offers a perfect way to set up your time to take in work requirements and general life well-being too. It's great for families to be able to grow together appreciating nature's outdoor world away from screens and online activities.

For older people the chance to relax and take time to enjoy their safe and secure surroundings is something that many bigger cities just can't compete with.

Tourists?

Some might think that the summer months become unbearable in well-known seaside towns as tourists take centre stage. Hard to find parking spaces, busy beaches and packed-out venues could totally change things.

Although this might be true of Brighton and Eastbourne further along the coast, it certainly doesn't apply to Worthing, Goring and Ferring.

Even central Worthing's seafront remains a great place all through the summer and although it might be busier there are still plenty of 'secret places' along the beach further west that only locals really know about. Plus, many homes in Goring and Ferring have the added benefit of off-road parking whilst still being only moments from the beach and Greensward.

At Stafford Johnson we are based in Goring and for more than a quarter of a century have specialised in the sale of seafront properties to be found here and in Ferring.

We know the area because we live and work here - it's where we're from and where we love.
